Alongside Things You Might Enjoy, I also created an editor/viewer for web pages scraped via the Wayback Machine. The intent was to make a fake joke internet that took particular weird/funny/awful old webpages and either present them in all their 90's glory or modify them in some way for a joke bit via simple HTML changes.
I meticulously recreated an IE 5 Windows 98 window for maximum immersion as well as to frame the pages in such a way where they didn't look totally broken. The editor actually scrapes the Wayback Machine directly, or you can specify a url to load in the editor to make changes. Pages are saved as single HTML files with all images encoded, so everything is as independent as possible in case you want to load the site separately or in a more full featured editor.
It was pretty fun to put together, and I want to revisit the idea someday in order to really flesh out the fake internet within the site.
